New Burial.. soon.

Listening to the album previewmix of the new Burial album right now, mixed by Kode 9 and it sounds amazing. The sound quality isn't really all that, but it's great to hear some new material. As we wait for the new album, I want to post an old favourite of mine, that appeared on the Box of Dub release from Soul Jazz. A real gem, and a tune that really deserves attention. The timing of a new album is perfect, and this one gets me in the mood while I wait.

James Brown is mostly remembered for his party funk hits, and they have been played and re-played over and over endlessly since they came out. I do enjoy some of them from time to time, but what I love more is his quiet moments. He had lots of feeling in his music, and it wasn't always about dancing and having fun. This one, King Heroin, is my absolute favourite, and it's a heartfelt story. Full of emotion and a wonderful song.. One for the late nights.

Black Snares

I got really exited when I read about this, and when I heard it, it really was as dark and moody as I had thought. Combining dark doom sounds with slow dubstep beats sounds great in itself, but throwing Black Sabbath in the mix makes it so much better. It's like the song was just waiting to be remixed in just this way. Venetian Snares keeps exploring new genres and sounds, and in my eyes he just gets better and better. Each new release has a new direction, and a new way of approaching the old styles. This is the A-side of a 10" released on Kriss, and the other side gives Electric Funeral a makeover.

Harder, better, remixed

This song has had way too much airtime lately, and just about everybody have remixed it, sampled it, and played it over and over.. I thought it was a great song once, but that was in 2001! Although it's hard to believe it's actually six years ago, it's amazing how a song can last that long and still sound this fresh. The one I'm posting is not really a remix, but more of a mash-up from Elektric Cowboy. He had it online for just a short while as a dj-tool, but here it is again!

Chop Soul

Fersk is Norwegian for Fresh, and fresh it is. The tune first dropped about a year ago, but this is the 2007 edit, and it sounds great. This is filtered house just like the French has served it for many years, but this track really stands out and needs attention. It's sampling Cheri - Murphy's Law from 1982, and makes great use of the sample. House is making waves again, and Fersk could be one of the new names on the scene. I've only heard this and one other tune from this man, and they are both good, but Chop Soul is the stand out track, and the one I'm posting today. Hope to hear more from this guy soon.
