Doris

I found Doris' album 'Did You Give The World Some Love Today Baby' by accident a while ago, and have loved it ever since. I have though about posting a song by her before, but couldn't choose one and ended up posting none at all. But here it is! This has become one of many favourites on this album. Nothing brightens up the day like putting it on, so everybody should get this. It's originally form 1970, but was re-issued in 1996, so it shouldn't be too hard to get. Do yourself a favour and give the world some love today by buying this album.

New Burial.. soon.

Listening to the album previewmix of the new Burial album right now, mixed by Kode 9 and it sounds amazing. The sound quality isn't really all that, but it's great to hear some new material. As we wait for the new album, I want to post an old favourite of mine, that appeared on the Box of Dub release from Soul Jazz. A real gem, and a tune that really deserves attention. The timing of a new album is perfect, and this one gets me in the mood while I wait.

James Brown is mostly remembered for his party funk hits, and they have been played and re-played over and over endlessly since they came out. I do enjoy some of them from time to time, but what I love more is his quiet moments. He had lots of feeling in his music, and it wasn't always about dancing and having fun. This one, King Heroin, is my absolute favourite, and it's a heartfelt story. Full of emotion and a wonderful song.. One for the late nights.

Black Snares

I got really exited when I read about this, and when I heard it, it really was as dark and moody as I had thought. Combining dark doom sounds with slow dubstep beats sounds great in itself, but throwing Black Sabbath in the mix makes it so much better. It's like the song was just waiting to be remixed in just this way. Venetian Snares keeps exploring new genres and sounds, and in my eyes he just gets better and better. Each new release has a new direction, and a new way of approaching the old styles. This is the A-side of a 10" released on Kriss, and the other side gives Electric Funeral a makeover.

Harder, better, remixed

This song has had way too much airtime lately, and just about everybody have remixed it, sampled it, and played it over and over.. I thought it was a great song once, but that was in 2001! Although it's hard to believe it's actually six years ago, it's amazing how a song can last that long and still sound this fresh. The one I'm posting is not really a remix, but more of a mash-up from Elektric Cowboy. He had it online for just a short while as a dj-tool, but here it is again!

Chop Soul

Fersk is Norwegian for Fresh, and fresh it is. The tune first dropped about a year ago, but this is the 2007 edit, and it sounds great. This is filtered house just like the French has served it for many years, but this track really stands out and needs attention. It's sampling Cheri - Murphy's Law from 1982, and makes great use of the sample. House is making waves again, and Fersk could be one of the new names on the scene. I've only heard this and one other tune from this man, and they are both good, but Chop Soul is the stand out track, and the one I'm posting today. Hope to hear more from this guy soon.

Magnetic City

This one has really been growing on me now that it's getting darker and colder up here. I got into Dubstep this spring and even though i have been listening to a lot of it this summer, it never felt like summer-music to me. This one really captures the feelings of being in a city at night. You can feel the tension of the day fading out as dawn comes. The sounds of the city still alive, but with a different tone and a different mood.
This is Kode 9, and a track from the Box Of Dub compilation out on Soul Jazz. One of his best tunes in my opinion. No vocals, only beats and soundscapes. Magnetic!

Mandela Is Dead!

Shocking news!

A bit late, I know, but this great little re-tweak of L.A. Style's James Brown Is Dead is great in the way that it shows how wonderful that old classic actually is. A true rave-banger that still sounds fantastic when played really loud. The energy is electric!

I'm back posting again, and this time I'll make it a habit.

Spank Rock - Bump

Posting the Pase Rock track made me put Yoyoyoyoyo back on the stereo, and this is definitely one of it's stand out tracks. I know this has been posted and posted all over the place, but for those who missed it, here it is again.

A double feature this time as I have to post the Switch remix of this one as well. This is without doubt one of the absolute top remixes of last year, and it has an immediate effect on my head and feet whenever I hear it. Should be played on all good parties for months to come still.. Switch is crazy, and mixed with Spank Rock it can't go much further!

Pase Rock - Lindsey Lohan's Revenge

This a great new track by Pase Rock, featuring the always fantastic Spank Rock, Amanda Blank and Santigold! Wow, what a team..

Lindsey Lohan will not like this, but I know I am. I'll let the song and the lyrics speak for them self this time. This is classic B-more production, and a sure club banger, but not for the easily offended.

Mass delete and a fresh start.

This blog has had it's ups and downs, and now i decided I'll just delete the whole thing and just start fresh. New year and all! The design has had some cosmetic changes, but all in all things should go on as usual. I have loads of new and old stuff I want to share with you, so keep coming back!

For new users, this is my musicblog. I post here about music that excites me from day to day, and usually that's quite a lot. It's not just new music here, but mostly it's music that's new to me, stuff that has gotten better with time, or just music that's on my mind at the time of posting. A lot of genres will be covered, but I've been known to favour electronic sounds from time to time.

More soon.. Drix.
